How Do You Let Go?

standcenterA big part of spiritual growth — really any kind of growth — is learning to let go. The saints and masters call it “surrender”, and it’s a key lesson here in Earth School. Letting go is something I’ve worked hard to learn over the years, and as a result, today I can help my spiritual counseling clients with this deep inner work, coming from a genuine place. Letting go isn’t something we really need to think about… it’s more like something we just have to go ahead and do.  I recently sat down and made a list of some of the ways to let go. Here’s what I got.

  • By letting go
  • Surrender
  • Turn it over to your Higher Power
  • Give it up to God
  • Put it in the Light
  • Breathe and let it go
  • Hit a pillow and let it go
  • Run as fast as you can
  • Dance dance dance
  • Work it out
  • Sweat it out
  • Sleep on it
  • Jump and shout
  • Say the Serenity Prayer
  • Go into your heart and let go
  • Come off it
  • Drop it
  • Say the short version of the Serenity Prayer
  • Pray about it and let it go
  • Choose Love
  • Choose Gratitude
  • Choose Acceptance
  • Take a break and let it go
  • Snap out of it
  • Light up (Buttercup)
  • Leggo your ego
  • Drop it
  • Let it pass through you
  • Step off
  • Make peace with it
  • Take a cold shower
  • Take a hot shower
  • Stand in the rain
  • Get out of your head
  • Cry your eyes out
  • Count to ten
  • Stop trippin’
  • Loose the ‘tude

Whenever we are experiencing anger, fear, sadness, judgment, frustration, resentment or any other form of negativity, we’re coming from someplace other than our true self/higher self/spiritual heart/. There are a million ways to justify being in negativity, and that’s exactly what our ego and intellect will do — convince us that we’re right to be there and keep us hanging on. But if we’re getting triggered, that’s not really us, it’s our stuff. The best thing we can do in that situation, is… let go.

So tell me… What’s YOUR favorite way to let go?
